Frequently asked questions
What does DotCom Radar do?
Type any brand name and the app checks whether the .com domain is free, plus whether the matching @username is taken on Instagram, X, TikTok, YouTube, Facebook, and GitHub — all in one tap.
Do I need to create an account?
No. The app and the web version both work without any sign-up. Search history and favourites stay on your device.
Is DotCom Radar free?
Yes. The mobile app is free. There are no in-app purchases, no subscriptions, and no ads.
How accurate are the social handle checks?
We hit each platform's public profile endpoint and look at the response. If a handle shows as available, no public profile exists for that username at the time of the check. Platforms occasionally reserve names for internal use even when the public lookup returns 404 — verify with the platform before committing to a brand.
I see "Connection failed" — what now?
The app needs an internet connection to look up domains and handles. Make sure Wi-Fi or cellular is on, then try again. If it persists, email us and include your iOS version and device model.
Where does my data go?
Nowhere we can see. Searches, favourites, and history are stored locally on your device. The server only sees the brand names you're actively checking, and never associates them with you. Full details on our Privacy page.
Using the iOS app
- Home — Find your .com: type any brand name in the search box and tap “Check availability”. You'll see .com status and all six social handles in one card.
- Generate: describe your niche (e.g. “podcast clipping tool”) and the built-in algorithm returns brandable names that already have a free .com.
- Scan: paste up to 1,000 names, or upload a CSV/TXT/TSV file, and check each one in batch.
- Saved: tap the heart on any result to save it. Long-press to remove. Saved domains stay on your device.
- Settings: switch language (English / العربية), toggle light/dark mode, pick a color palette.
Clearing history or favourites
- History tab → tap Clear all at the top to remove every entry.
- Favourites (Saved) tab → long-press any item to delete it, or tap Clear all for everything.
- Full reset: delete and reinstall the app — that clears every locally-stored preference.
